As the season approaches, i've finally drafted, and let me tell you, I'm pretty happy with the results. It may be more of the reach team than the dream team, but if there's one thing I've learned, is that it's fun to believe i'm smarter than everyone else. And so I will continue to completely ignore ADP, instead going after guys that stir something deep within me.
Sure, I know Seager has an ADP of 33, yet I also know he's better than the ten players preceding him. Jazz at 26 and Seager at 33? Nah, fuck that. Give me the guy-made-of-glass I know will hover around a .900 OPS, instead of the guy-made-of-glass that will be infuriatingly inconsistent even when healthy. This trend continues through the draft, even with William Contreras at the very next pick, where I reached a healthy six spots to nab the best catcher in baseball. But in my head, I reached about twenty spots, because an ADP of 41 was far too late to begin with. I would have taken Contreras at 25 if given the opportunity.
Last year, I drafted several relievers, only to drop them a few weeks into the season and try to go after the QS and K categories each week with only starting pitchers. It worked surprisingly well, but I believe it would have worked better had I decided to do this from the onset of the draft - I would have had an even better selection of starting pitchers. So this year, I've doubled down on that strategy, and drafted zero relief pitchers from the get-go.
I really want this season to be the ultimate experiment in the no relievers strategy so I'm putting it out there into the world. I'm extremely happy with the squad I have, but if you know me, you know this is really just the beginning. Waiver Wires are where championships are won, and this year, Gerbil Sports plans to attack the Waiver Wire harder than ever. Enjoy.
